Helpful Instructions for "interviewing" the Virtual Simulated Patients

Please remember that the MVSP is not a "simulated person", but only a "simulated patient". It has been designed as a training aid for healthcare professionals and can only answer specific questions relating to the illness the patient has.

This means that for example the MVSP cannot reply to questions outside of it's "knowledge".

The MVSP can understand questions relating to all possible symptoms, all locations (of the body) as well as the intensity of these symptoms (including lack of them) and the duration of the symptoms.

So, for example you can start off an interview by asking "Hello" followed by "What's the problem" or "What seems to be the problem", etc.

You can ask any type of question regarding a symptom and a location, for example "Do you have pain/itching/numbness/an ache in your arm/leg/left foot/stomach/...".

You can also ask about duration with a question like: "How long have you had the pain/itching/soreness/numbness in your stomach/left check/right eye/...".

As far as intensity is concerned, you can ask for example "How bad is the pain/ache/... in your eye/foot/stomach".

You can also ask about any possible symptom in a variety of ways for example "Do you have a blocked nose?", "Do you have pain in your back?", "Have you noticed a loss of appetite?".

You will notice that the answers from the patient are not always "perfect", but then again, real people aren't "perfect" either.

Thank you for your interest.
